Queensland Oaks

The 2017 Queensland Oaks is a Group 1 race that takes place in late May or early June of each year in Queensland. The 2017 edition will be run at Doomben Racecourse, the Queensland Oaks is a 2,200 metre race open to three-year-old fillies only. The Queensland Oaks is worth $500,000 in prize money and is run under set-weight conditions.

Due to weather conditions on the 4th of June the 2017 Queensland Oaks has been postponed to Saturday 10th June.

The first Queensland Oaks was run in 1951 and has been held annually since except for 1957, when the race did not take place. The inaugural running of the Queensland Oaks was won by a horse named Maltmaid. The Queensland Oaks was run as a Principal race for the first 28 years until it was given its Group 1 status in 1979.

The Queensland Oaks usually attracts a large number of local fillies, as well as a number of interstate runners. The Group 3 Doomben Roses (2020m), which is held two weeks earlier at Doomben Racecourse, is often the favoured lead-up race to the Queensland Oaks. The last filly to win the Doomben Roses and Queensland Oaks double was Ethereal (2001).

Arctic Scent (1996) holds the record for winning the Queensland Oaks in the fastest time with 2 minutes and 27 seconds, while Triumphal Queen (1989) ran the race in the slowest winning time of 2 minutes and 45.4 seconds. Notable horses to have won the Queensland Oaks include Lady Hannah (1952), Aspalita (1963), Bonybel (1974), Round The World (1987), Triscay (1991), Booked (1994), Eskimo Queen (2007), Purple (2009) and Miss Keepsake (2010).
