Asian Beau Stakes

The 2016 Asian Beau Stakes is a Group 3 race hosted at Ascot Racecourse in the Western Australian capital of Perth. It’s a quality handicap event scheduled for the end of October or start of November each year. The race is worth a total of $150,000 and run over a trip of 1400m during the Perth summer carnival.

The Asian Beau Stakes holds the title of being the first quality handicap of the season in Perth and as a result the racing is always tight and fierce.

While on the other side of the country the Asian Beau Stakes is usually scheduled to coincide with the Victoria Derby Day meet in Melbourne.

This can often be used as a first up assignment for some of the big races later in the carnival. These can include the Colonel Reeves Stakes, the RJ Peters Stakes or even the $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes.

Luckygray proved he could handle both the three week break and the jump in grade to win the Railway stakes on protest after winning this race in 2011.

Other winners of the Asian Beau Stakes include Fair Alert in 2000, Wild Target in 2005 and Kasabian in 2009.

The Asian Beau Stakes field usually features a fairly healthy selection of local horses. Racing in Western Australia kicks off fairly slowly throughout the end of spring, and a lot of the Asian Beau Stakes field might be resuming or close to it.

2016 Asian Beau Stakes Nominations

The Asian Beau Stakes nominations attract strong runners from Perth stables and from elsewhere in Western Australia. Very rarely, eastern horses enter the Asian Beau Stakes nominations. Punters tend to pay a bit of attention to the Asian Beau Stakes nominations, because they provide a fairly good indication of which horses are resuming and expected to race at group level.

The 2016 Asian Beau Stakes nominations will be published below.
