Jockey Jake Noonan is hoping to obtain clearance to resume riding

Apprentice jockey Jake Noonan will visit a neurologist today in the hope of obtaining clearance to resume his riding career.

The young jockey was hours from making his return to racing at Mornington Racecourse last Wednesday when he was refused final clearance by the course medic.

Noonan, who is eager to return to his much loved riding career, was frustrated by the late ruling.

“We had all the clearances ready to go and all my rides organised,” he said.

“That was a bit frustrating and disappointing.

“I wasn’t really informed of anything until the last minute.”

Racing Victoria’s medical consultant Dr Gary Zimmerman opted to refer Noonan to another specialist before allowing him to ride.

“Right at the last minute he wanted to refer me onto another neurologist to give another opinion,” Noonan said.

“It’s really a waste of four weeks.

“I’ve lost just over five kilos in three to four weeks.

“At the end of the day I just had to cop it.”

The young jockey is hopeful the neurologist will give him some good news later today.

“I’m seeing the neurologist today,” he said.

“I’ll have a talk to him today and I’m sure he’ll give me a guide (as to when I can return).”

Noonan suffered brain bleeding and temporary paralysis after the race fall that occurred at Flemington in May.
