Quick Back-Up For Woorim In Emirates Stakes

Trainer Robert Heathcote will attempt to win his first Group 1 title when Woorim lines up for the $1 million Emirates Stakes at Flemington this Saturday.

Woorim won his last start in the Group 3 tab.com.au Stakes on Victoria Derby Day by an impressive two lengths.

“That was fantastic and to do it on such a big day on the racing calendar,” Heathcote said.

“It was a huge achievement and a huge thrill.”

The trainer is hopeful the track conditions will suit Woorim come this Saturday.

“Anywhere from a genuine good 3…up to a dead 5, that’s his perfect track,” he said.

“Similar track conditions on Saturday and we think we’ll be in it.”

Woorim will be having just seven days in between runs, which is a technique that has worked well for the six-year-old in previous campaigns.

“He’s backed up successfully in the past,” Heathcote said.

“He has the ability to back up, it’s just a matter of having his feet right.

“In years gone by it was a common thing.

“This has been a planned move and the Emirates have been his target all along.

“This is his grand final on the weekend.

“We’re quite confident he can get the mile.”

Heathcote will also line up stablemate Buffering against Black Caviar in the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic this weekend.

“We’re very confident that we have the horse very near his best,” he said.

“We’ll put the blinkers back on him for this race.

“We’re definitely going out there to be in the front two in the running.”
