The 2016 Cox Plate form guide can be tricky to understand for novice punters that are simply looking for the Cox Plate winner, so we have done the heavy-lifting for you and put together this quick guide on all ten runners in the Group 1 event!
Winx ($1.85) remains a dominant favourite in the 2016 Cox Plate betting market from Hartnell ($3.70), Yankee Rose ($16), Vadamos ($18), Lucia Valentina ($19), Black Heart Bart ($26) and Hauraki ($31).

Happy Trails – Happy Trails has raced very well in the Cox Plate on a number of occasions, but there is no doubt his best days are beyond him. It is very tough to see him winning, but he can run better than his Cox Plate odds suggest.
Black Heart Bart – Black Heart Bart is arguably the most versatile horse in the country and he is worthy of his opportunity in the Cox Plate. He is a talented galloper in his own right, but he was no match for Winx in the Ladbrokes Stakes and it is tough to see him turning-the-tables.
Hartnell – Hartnell has gone to another level this preparation and his victory in the Turnbull Stakes was of the highest quality. There is no doubt that he is the main danger to Winx and as long as he handles Moonee Valley he will be in the finish.
Hauraki – Hauraki is racing in career-best form and he absolutely savaged the line to take out the Epsom Handicap. He should relish the step-up to 2000 metres, but whether he can match Winx and Hartnell is the big question.
Happy Clapper – Happy Clapper stamped himself as a genuine Group 1 performer when he finished in the placings in both the Doncaster Mile and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. He isn’t going as well this preparation and he does look a touch outclassed.
Vadamos – Vadamos is the x-factor in the 2016 Cox Plate field and be brings strong European form into the race. He will make his own luck right on the speed and he will give the likes of Hartnell and Winx something to catch.
Awesome Rock – Awesome Rock earnt himself a place in the Cox Plate field with his victory in the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes. He likes Moonee Valley, but he is another horse that is outclassed in this field.
Winx – Winx is the best horse in Australia and she is a clear favourite to win the Cox Plate for the second year in a row. She has proven to be one of the most versatile horse in the country and she looks absolutely bombproof in this race.
Lucia Valentina – Lucia Valentina is a very-talented horse in her own right and her run in the Underwood Stakes was the perfect lead-up for a Cox Plate. She will be absolutely flying home late and the wet track only improves her chances.
Yankee Rose – Yankee Rose has the chance to become the first filly to win the Cox Plate since Surround. She gets into the race with just 47.5 kilograms on her back, but she probably isn’t good enough.
