A colt on debut and a filly scoring her third straight win put themselves in the spotlight at Eagle Farm today ahead of next month’s $2 Million Magic Millions Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast.

The Michael Nolan-trained Sir Luminar had only been previously seen in a trial at Toowoomba but proved himself to be an advanced juvenile as he led from start to finish to claim the Listed $100,000 Phelan Ready Stakes (1000m) from Sir Moments and Londehero.

Ridden by Queensland’s leading jockey Chris Munce, the big son of Choisir jumped exceptionally from barrier one and dominated his rivals as he bolted through the line to claim a 1 1/2 length win.

Sir Luminar clocked a slick 57.14 seconds for the 1000m which was more than 0.5 seconds quicker than Calaway Gal Stakes (1000m) winner Missy Longstocking who recorded her third straight win in a time of 57.69 seconds.

The Liam Birchley-trained filly jumped eagerly and was allowed to sit just outside the lead by senior rider Damian Browne before cruising to the lead at the 400m mark.

It looked as if the Sequalo filly would be home comfortably but she had to fight late to hold off the fast-finishing Maracoola and Moroccan Rose.

With Missy Longstocking now boasting a prize pool of $102,500 and Sir Luminar $64,000, both horses look to be guaranteed of a start in next month’s two-year-old glamour race.
