Bold Glance will attempt to become the first Queensland horse to win the Doncaster Mile in 36 years

Bold Glance will attempt to become the first Queensland horse to win the $2 million Doncaster Mile in 36 years this weekend.

The Sequalo gelding, who is trained by Norm Hilton in Toowoomba, will attempt to upstage the seemingly unbeatable More Joyous when he takes to the track this Saturday April 16, 2011.

Bold Glance, who finished third in the Doncaster Mile Prelude last start, has drawn a perfect barrier of three for the Group 1 race.

Trainer Norm Hilton is hopeful that Bold Glance can come through with the goods for Queensland in the Doncaster Mile.

“I hope we can do it,” Hilton said.

“I thought it was a big run in the Prelude,” Hilton said.

Hilton was extremely happy with Bold Glance’s performance in last Saturday’s race.

“It didn’t surprise me and I reckon he would have won with a decent alley,” Hilton said.

“He jumped well and then settled back but then got shunted four wide and never got in again.”

The trainer is thrilled with the way his horse has recovered since his run in the Doncaster Prelude.

“He’s 100 per cent and has pulled up magnificently,” Hilton said.

“He was that well he could have run again on Sunday.”

Hilton will be attempting to recreate the feat of Hall Of Fame trainer Jim Atkins, who trained Queenslander Dalrello to a Doncaster Mile victory in 1975.

“I can’t put myself on the same stage as Jim but it would be unreal to win the Doncaster like Jim did with Dalrello,” Hilton said.

“Mr Atkins used to give me advice whenever I asked him.”

Bold Glance has won eight of his 27 career starts and has accrued almost $556,000 in prize money.
