The weather might be average but the racing promises to be anything but as we enter the juicy part of the summer series at Eagle Farm this weekend.

This is the period where we can expect to see the talent pool bolstered by horses targeting the Magic Millions Carnival in January.

It’s also the time where the bigger black type races are staged and gives connections a crucial shot at good prize money when racing is otherwise quiet around much of the country.

Two of the more anticipated runners set for starts over the next couple of weeks are the juvenile pairing of Sizzling and Snipzu.

They are both returning after 810m trials at Doomben where they each picked up a second placing.

That’s exactly what trainer of Sizzling, Kelso Wood, says he was looking for.

“We didn’t want to bust him in the trial,” Wood said.

“He’s a pretty laid back type of horse, but you saw what he did on raceday when Chris (Munce) put a couple around him.

“I am very happy with where he’s at right now.”

Sizzling couldn’t have been more impressive in his career so far however some are now more cautious after his trial defeat to Nechita.

The record will be set straight this weekend when he runs in the Phelan Ready Stakes.

Snipzu meanwhile is a Liam Birchley trained runner and is set for the Calaway Girl fillies race on the same card.

While these two are guaranteed a spot in their respective races the same can’t be said for a few of their rivals.

Connections will be anxiously waiting the result of a meeting today between jockeys, chief steward Wade Birch and BRC chief Stephen Ferguson.

They are deciding whether or not it’s safe to lift the field limits in 1000m runners up from 12.

Sizes have been capped as a result of a bad area of turf approximately 13m from the fence at the 600m mark.

The decision will be vital for owners as they won’t just miss out on a crack at the Eagle Farm prize money but also the opportunity to get into the Magic Millions.
