Hong Kong based jockey Zac Purton is keen on the chances of Yankee Rose landing him an Autumn Carnival Group 1 win in the $1m Inglis Sires’ (1400m) on the first day of ‘The Championships’ at Randwick on Saturday.

Yankee Rose ran a mighty first up race with Purton in the saddle when second to Capitalist in the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on March 19 and he is predicting that the filly will be better suited over the 1400m this week.
“Her run in the Slipper was great, with another fifty metres she would’ve won so the step up in distance plays right into her hands,” Purton told justhorseracing.com.au.
“If she brings the same form to this race she should be hard to beat”.
”It looks as if the extra distance is what she’s looking for”.
Purton is expecting Yankee Rose to have move time to warm up to the task over the 1400m after she was left flat footed when Capitalist took off at the 300m mark in the Golden Slipper.
“She hit a flat spot when I asked her for an effort in the Slipper and it was really only the last 100m that she started to fly, stepping to 1400 will help her go through her gears easier,” Purton said.
Yankee Rose was only having her third race start in the Golden Slipper and her first since winning the $150,000 Golden Gift (1100m) at Rosehill on November 21, 2015.
The All American filly will be facing the second up syndrome in the Inglis Sires’ but Purton is confident that trainer David Vandyke will be on top of the situation.
“She is only small and it was a huge effort first up, my only concern is if she can reproduce that effort but David Vandyke the trainer knows her well and I’m sure he’s got her peaking again,” Purrton said.
“It’s hard to say how good she will be but she’s definitely a Group 1 horse”.
Yankee Rose is currently the $3.80 favourite for the Inglis Sires’ at Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of the John O’Shea trained Telperion ($3.90) who also produced an eye catching Golden Slipper run for fourth.
