Puissance De Lune’s Memsie Stakes Odds Shorten

The 2014 Memsie Stakes odds of Puissance De Lune have shortened this morning and he is now into a quote of $10 to record his maiden win at Group 1 level at Caulfield this afternoon.

Puissance De Lune opened at $6 in early Memsie Stakes betting markets and drifted significantly during the week, but there has been a rally of support for the Shamardal gelding this morning, despite his disappointing first-up effort in the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 16.

Weir told Sky Racing HQ that Puissance De Lune had taken plenty of benefit from his first-up run, but the leading Victorian trainer does not believe that the seven-year-old will be at peak fitness until after he runs in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) today.

“He has certainly improved, which he would have to because he ran a bit below what we were expecting first-up,” Weir said.

“He has taken good benefit from the run and the plan all along has been to try and have him right for the Makybe Diva.

“He ran well in that race last year and that is the race that we have sort of had in the back of our mind the whole preparation.

“Tomorrow is just another step towards that.

“He is a seven-year-old bull that has had nine months off, so racing is obviously going to improve him.

“We couldn’t get him any better at home and he had a nice piece of work at Warrnambool on Monday.

“He is nice and bouncy in himself and hopefully he can run well.”

While there has been plenty of support for Puissance De Lune this morning, the best backed runner in 2014 Memsie Stakes betting markets is Chris Waller-trained Boban and he is into a quote of $3.50 to win his fourth Group 1 event.

Messene has also been well-supported in the last 24 hours and is into Memsie Stakes odds of $4, while Sweet Idea ($6) and Moment Of Change ($6.50) have both moved out half a point this morning.

Silent Achiever has flown under the radar heading into the Memsie Stakes, but there has been a sprinkling of support for the talented mare and she is into $10, while there has been little support for 2013 Cox Plate runner-up Happy Trails ($21), the returning Super Cool ($34), talented stayer Sertorius ($441) and consistent mare Gig ($61).
