The talented grey had no dramas over the short distance, demonstrating his top class and ability in his first-up spring start.

Puissance De Lune was seven lengths off the leader at the home turn, however, sprinted to a soft win in the final stages of the race.

Ajeeb finished the best of the rest in second placing, while Second Effort placed a gallant third.

Bianmick was a late scratching after he somehow managing to flip himself over as he made his way into the barriers.

Puissance De Lune’s owner, Gerry Ryan, was not expecting his horse to win the PB Lawrence Stakes with such ease.

“The trainer did say he was too short for today,” he admitted.

Ryan confirmed that the plan was still to head towards the $3 million Cox Plate on October 26.

“We certainly are looking to going to the Cox Plate…but he’s still got a few runs to go before then,” said Ryan.

Trainer Darren Weir was over the moon with Puissance De Lune’s performance.

“That was great,” Weir said.

“The plan was to go back and just to be strong late.

“The horse went great.

“I’m just glad to get over today.

“I guess we just want to see how he pulls up tomorrow.”

Jockey Glen Boss has been very vocal in his praise for Puissance De Lune and today was no exception.

“He’s simply an extraordinary animal,” Boss said.

“He’s had a massive blow there.

“At the (last) furlong he started to really peak.

“He’s exceptionally quick (and) passed them with ridiculous ease.

“He’s the real deal mate.

“Behind that mare and So You Think this horse is up there with the best horses I’ve ever ridden.

“He’s a genuine superstar.

“I can’t express my words about him.”
