Price to have two pronged attack for Golden Rose Stakes

Caulfield trainer Mick Price is hoping to head to Sydney with a two pronged attack for the Group 1 $1m De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on September 12.

Smart three year olds Ready For Victory and Prince Of Brooklyn have been earmarked for the first $1 million race of the Spring Carnival and both will resume in the Group 3 $150,000 H.D.F. McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 29.

“Then one or both will head to Rosehill for the Group 1 Golden Rose over 1400m, which is the first $1 million race of the spring, on September 12,” Price told the Herald Sun.

Ready For Victory has already had a taste of Group 1 racing after Price threw the inexperienced colt up against the best two year olds during the Sydney Autumn Carnival.

Ready For Victory scored on debut in the Listed $120,000 Festival Of Racing 1000 (1000m) at Flemington on March 7 and then ran a mighty race when fourth to Vancouver in the Group 1 $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 21.

The More Than Ready colt was only beaten less than two lengths after being the widest runner on the home turn and then continued to run off the track all the way down the straight.

Price gave Ready For Victory one more run in Sydney but the colt was clearly looking for a break after finishing seventh to Pride Of Dubai in the Group 1 $1m ATC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on April 6.

Ready For Victory is currently eleventh in the order of entry for the Golden Rose Stakes with $272,000 in prizemoney and is guaranteed of gaining a start while Prince Of Brooklyn needs to win more prizemoney to add to his $73,345 of eligible earnings already in the bank to improve his position at thirty-two.

Prince Of Brooklyn is undefeated from two race starts with a debut victory in the Group 3 $115,000 Seven News National Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on May 16 followed by a win in the $100,000 VOBIS Gold Elvstroem Classic (1300m) at Swan Hill on June 5.

But the winning VOBIS cheque from his win at Swan Hill isn’t counted towards eligibility for the Golden Rose order of entry.

Prince Of Brooklyn showed that he is ready for a good first up showing with a win in an 800m Cranbourne barrier trial on August 10 while Ready For Victory finished third in his trial on the same day.

After the Golden Rose Price will head back to Melbourne to prepare both colts for the Group 1 $1m BECK Caulfield Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 10 and both are also nominated for the Group 1 $3m William Hill Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 24.

Ready For Victory is listed at $15 with Ladbrokes.com.au for the Golden Rose Stakes while Prince Of Brooklyn is at the lucrative odds of $51.
