Group 1 winner Pressday will likely be retired after a bleeding attack

Four-year-old entire Pressday’s career remains in doubt after he suffered from a bleeding attack during last Saturday’s tenth place finish in the Sebring Sprint at Rosehill.

The bleed, which was present in both nostrils, will result in an automatic three month ban from racing for the horse.

With Pressday’s spring carnival hopes now gone, trainer Chris Waller believes that the Group 1 T.J. Smith winner will most likely be retired to stand at stud.

“I haven’t spoken to the farm (Eliza Park Stud) to see what their final decision is,” Waller said.

“But it could possibly be that he will be retired.”

The bleeding comes as a disappointment to Waller, who felt Pressday was on the verge of returning to his best form.

“I was so happy with his work before Saturday, I thought he would return to his best form,” he said.

“It’s a shame … we never got to see the best of him.

“Obviously as a two-year-old he was very impressive but it looks like we might not get to see what he can do as a mature horse.”

Pressday has won five of his 14 race starts and has earned more than $800,000 in prize money during his lucrative career.
