Preferment has been a strong and consistent performer for trainer Chris Waller through his entire racing career so far; posting three wins and five minors through only eighteen competitive starts.

Clearly needing the run upon resuming in spring for 12th in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m), Preferment relished a return to a longer distance when charging home to win each of the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) and Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) in succession.

While failing to figure in either of the Cox Plate or Melbourne Cup before a trip abroad heralded seventh in the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase (2400m), the Zabeel entire resumed this time for fourth in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) a fortnight ago and appears primed for a return to winning form.

Suavito and Fenway have both returned to racing in typically competitive form this time and have each firmed in 2016 Australian Cup betting markets over the last 24 hours.

A noted autumn performer, Suavito posted a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) first-up in 2015; progressing to success in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) before ending her campaign a credible seventh in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m).

Unlucky to miss the Spring Carnival through injury, the Thorn Park mare delivered a particularly handy field defeat in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) first-up this time before running a handy third in her defence of the Futurity Stakes.

Drawn ideally in barrier 5, Luke Currie has been confirmed to retain the ride on the five-year-old in the Australian Cup.

Fenway undoubtedly announced herself to the Australian racing community when leading from start to finish in last year’s Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) and will return to arguably her pet distance in the Australian Cup.

Continuing to impress through a spring campaign highlighted by success in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes (2000m), the daughter of High Chaparral resumed this time for ninth in the CF Orr Stakes before running second in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) a fortnight ago.

Popular gelding Happy Trails has firmed to Australian Cup odds of $21 with Ladbrokes Australia, while Rising Romance and race favourite Bow Creek continue to drift in the hours leading up to jump.
