Politeness’ Emirates Stakes Odds Shorten

Politeness has been backed into 2015 Emirates Stakes odds of $11 and she has been one of the best-backed runners in betting markets for the Group 1 event that will be held at Flemington tomorrow.

Politeness started her 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a fast-finishing win in the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on September 19 and she made it two wins on the trot in the Group 3 Northwood Plume Stakes (1200m) at the same venue on October 10 before she made a successful step-up to a mile to record her maiden Group 1 victory in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on October 31.

Trainer Robert Smerdon has been thrilled with the preparation of Politeness and he told Racing Ahead this morning that there is no reason not to give the Street Sense mare the opportunity to make it back-top-back Group 1 victories in the 2015 Emirates Stakes.

“To get a win at Group 1 level was what the whole thing was about,” Smerdon said.

“She was almost retired after her last preparation and they were talking about going off to stud, but Phil Sly calls the shots and he said we will roll on into the spring.

“I think that it is good that she has a Group 1 on her CV because she has always demonstrated that level of ability, but it doesn’t quite happen and you have to have the right set of circumstances.

“I always thought that if she got on a soft track she would be able to win a Group 1 and she did fairly well last week.

“We will give her another opportunity tomorrow.”

Politeness has generally had her races spaced during her racing career and she has never backed up within seven days of a previous race starts.

Smerdon believes that Politeness has come out of her Myer Classic victory in excellent condition, but he admits that there is a genuine question mark over how she will handle the quick back-up in the 2015 Emirates Stakes.

“To back them up in seven days is a very intangible thing and the only way you know if they can do it is if you give them that opportunity,” Smerdon said.

“They can appear fine, but when it comes to the crunch they might not have the same zest about them.

“From everything that we can see she is in the same order as she was last week and on face value she will back-up pretty good.”

Politeness is currently available at 2015 Emirates Stakes odds of $11 with Ladbrokes, while Bow Creek ($4.80) remains a clear favourite from Magic Artist ($5.50), Turn Me Loose ($7.50), Lucky Hussler ($8) and Disposition ($9).

You can score the best odds for every single race at Flemington on Saturday with Ladbrokes, who are offering Best Tote or SP +20% on all nine races!
