Playtime For Munce At Eagle Farm

With offers flooding in thick and fast for one of Australia’s most in from jockey’s, Chris Munce, Barcaldine trainer Todd Austin was stoked to secure the veteran hoops services.

He’s engaged him to ride promising three year old Playtime in the  Grace Construction Products Handicap over 1500m at Eagle Farm tomorrow.

The filly may have only won two of her 13 career starts but she’s performed well in pretty good company.

As a two year old during the Brisbane winter carnival she placed in both the BRC Sires Produce Stakes and the Group 1 TJ Smith.

She’s won almost a quarter of a million in prize money and Austin is hoping to increase that substantially via the Magic Millions Carnival.

That’s part of the reason he’s elected to book Munce tomorrow, if the horse can impress him then he’s hoping Mince will stick with her on the Gold Coast.

It does mean booting off apprentice rider Brooke Richardson though as well as her three kilo claim (Playtime will carry 58kg tomorrow).

“It was six of one and half a dozen of the other,” Austin said.

“This way we get the experience and the great form of Chris but lose the handy 3kg claim we had with Brooke.”

The horse ran poorly first up on a slow track in October but improved to run fifth in a big field second up and then finish runner up last start over 1400m, all with Richardson in the saddle.

“Playtime hasn’t had things fall her way in her past two runs which have been good for Brooke who hasn’t done much wrong,” Austin said.

“We are headed to non-claiming races through to the Magic Millions Guineas in January and we are hoping the filly runs well enough to convince Chris to ride her right though the rest of her campaign.”

Playtime is second favourite for the race just behind market leader Pretty Pins.
