Pinwheel

Pinwheel wins the Group 2 Warwick Stakes

The Peter Snowden trained Pinwheel has won the Group 2 Warwick Stakes today, an impressive run on the Heavy 9 Warwick Farm track over 1400m. Six year old gelding Pinwheel proved his ability to step up in distance having always been kept to sprint distances of 1200m or less in his 23-start career.

Melbourne Cup runner up Maluckyday was a late scratching due to the heavy track.

Pinwheel won the race by 1.8 lengths from Ilovethiscity. Four year old entire Ilovethiscity was in doubt for the race after suffering a minor hoof injury earlier in the week after throwing a shoe and standing on a nail, but was declared fit for the race by NSW’s chief veterinarian Dr Craig Suann yesterday afternoon. Startsmeup finished third with Black Piranha fourth. Wet track specialist and group 1 winner Sacred Choice finished seventh.

Pinwheel was second up in the Group 2 feature at Warwick Farm after a solid third in the Group 3 Missile Stakes at Randwick two weeks ago.

Also at Warwick Farm today, race favourite Manawanui blitzed the field in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes to win by 4.3 lengths from Queenian and Detours. In the Group 3 race for three year old fillies, the Silver Shadow Stakes, Pane In The Glass scored a first up win by a head from Florentina with Streama third.
