Pinker Pinker Primed To Go One Better

Pinker Pinker will be looking to do one better than her last start in the Cox Plate

Greg Eurell says he’s thrilled with the way Pinker Pinker is progressing through her spring campaign and it’s hard to disagree as she constantly threatens at the pointy end of the field.

You can imagine though that behind the excitement and happiness of competing valiantly in black type racing week in and week out is also a little bit of disappointment knowing he’s got so close but just missed out on two occasions.

Pinker Pinker returned this prep in the Cockram Stakes finishing fifth over a shorter than ideal 1200m.

From there she stepped up to the 1400m in the Let’s Elope Stakes and claimed a handy win over the likes of Mid Summer Music and Parables.

After that it was the Stock Stakes considered by many to be one of the races of the carnival so far.

She was locked in a battle with King’s Rose, just missing out by a head on the line.

It was another second last start as well when Secret Admirer was just too good in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap.

Eurell is hoping he can reverse that result this weekend though when Pinker Pinker heads to the 2011 Cox Plate.

“I’ve been very very happy this prep…steps up to this grade consistently,” he said.

“She’s had a couple of close encounters and nearly got there.

“Stock Stakes was a super run, stuck deep and battled on very very gamely.”

He says Pinker Pinker will have no problems handling the small and intimate Moonee Valley circuit which has a habit of getting a little bit rowdy on Cox Plate Day.

“She’s just like an old campaigner, nothing worries this mare,” he said.

“If you didn’t know she was a mare you’d swear she was a gelding.”

Pinker Pinker will be ridden by Craig Williams who will have a bit of work to do from out in barrier 12.

“Craig’s in super form, rode the mare in trackwork this morning and was very upbeat,” Eurell said.

As yet there’s no plan on whether they’ll push forward and look for some luck or bite the bullet and drop towards the tail.

“It’s something we’re going t have a look and a chat about,” he said.
