Pinker Pinker is the 2011 Cox Plate winner at Moonee Valley.
The Greg Eurell trained galloper defeated Jimmy Choux and Rekindled Interest with Wall Street fourth.
A ride of fortune by Craig Williams paved the way for $26 bolter Pinker Pinker to become Australasia’s weight for age champion by winning the W S Cox Plate (2040m) today.
The four-year-old mare who has spent her life in the best of filly’s company as a three-year-old stepped up to the best of open class and gave Williams a second Cox Plate and trainer Greg Eurell his first.
The name Pinker Pinker is Malaysian slang for “money” and the daughter of Reset added $1.8m to her $665,868 courtesy of a Williams’ gem.
The win gave the hoop the best working week of his life having won the Caulfield Cup on Southern Speed, Geelong Cup on Dunaden before Pinker Pinker’s triumph.
It was fantastic,” a jubilant Williams said.
“Basically I just trusted her and took the runs when they came.
“When I gave her a smack she just lifted.
“She’s just so tough and honest.
“To win a race like this, the Cox Plate, it’s just fantastic.”
Williams scored his first Cox Plate victory on grand campaigner Fields Of Omagh in 2006.
The heavily backed three-year- old Helmet $2.80 fav led the field and set a steady pace.
He was quickly joined by Kiwi Lion Tamer who then sat off him.
Perfectly placed behind the duo were King’s Rose and Jimmy Choux.
Avienus was caught wide but got into the running line when Kerrin McEvoy on Helmet increased the pace going into the back straight.
Pinker Pinker settled in the back six and was passed by Steven King on Efficient who made the first move in the race at the 1000m.
Coming to the turn it was apparent that Helmet supporters were going to leave the money in the bag when Jimmy Choux moved up and headed the Peter Snowden trained galloper.
As they sprinted King’s Rose was flat-footed and bumped with Rekindled Interest while Lion Tamer dropped off.
Jimmy Choux and Helmet were suddenly confronted by a new horse on the scene Pinker Pinker.
Williams stuck to the rail while all others were looking for a way out.
It was a great ride as he moved from near the tail to third without going around a horse.
Pinker Pinker kept going, went to the outside of Jimmy Choux and the weakening Helmet and by the 100m mark had the 2011 Cox Plate won.
Pinker Pinker scored by 1-1/4 length over Jimmy Choux $6.50 who was gallant with Rekindled Interest $10, running on well from midfield another neck away third.
Rekindled Interest should have finished closer, probably second, but for the trouble near the home turn.
Another bolter Wall Street $81 finished well from the tail to snatch fourth.
Secret Admirer ran on well without looking the winner as did Efficient who was workmanlike after also featuring in the home turn interference.
The very well liked Eurell, who trained star galloper Apache Cat, was emotional after the race.
“It’s taking a bit to absorb at the moment,” he said.
“She’s been the ultimate professional all the way through.
“And Craig’s the ultimate professional – he executed perfectly.”
The race ended on a sad note as Lion Tamer broke down in the near hind leg and had to be put down.
