Greg Eurell has confirmed that his four-year-old mare Pinker Pinker will journey on towards the $3 million Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 22.

Pinker Pinker is one of 36 horses that remain in contention to run in the 14 horse race.

“(I’m) not sure where everybody sits in the order but hopefully we get in,” Eurell said.

“Her form certainly supports that she should be allowed to run.

“I know they like horses that have won Group 1 races and they get priority but she is Group 1 placed.”

“It’s sort of an interesting criteria they work on.

“It’s a race we’d all like to be in.”

Should Pinker Pinker not make the Cox Plate field, the trainer will have to resort to running the Reset mare in either one of two races on Victoria Derby Day or the Emirates Stakes the following weekend.

“There are options,” Eurell said.

“(But) we’re probably going to have to look to the following weekend and that sort of gives up four weeks between runs.

“There’s the MacKinnon, there’s the Group 1 fillies and mares race over 1,600 (Myer Classic) and the Emirates.

“(No matter which race) Craig Williams will definitely be on her.”

Pinker Pinker finished second to Secret Admirer last start in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap at Randwick.

Eurell felt her performance indicated she would be on song for the Cox Plate’s 2,040 metre distance.

“I think she had her chances there, in all fairness we struck a better one on the race and it won very very well,” he said.

“2000 might be just what she’s looking for next start.”
