Pillar Of Creation In Career Best Form Ahead Of Sheen Group Handicap

Pillar Of Creation will be chasing his second straight win when he contests the Sheen Group Handicap at Caulfield on Saturday and co-trainer Simon Zahra believes that the talented gelding is in the best form of his racing career.

Pillar Of Creation returned to the races with a second place finish behind General Peekay in the All Victorian Sprint Series at Flemington on May 10 and finished third in the Jim Conway Handicap (1200m) at Sandown on May 31 before scoring his first race win this preparation in the Best Tote Plus Handicap (1200m) at Moonee Valley on June 21.

Zahra has been thrilled with the form of Pillar Of Creation this preparation and he is confident that the God’s Own gelding will prove very tough to beat when he steps-up to 1400 metres for the Sheen Group Handicap this weekend.

“The ride was outstanding the other day at the Valley and it probably won him the race,” Zahra told Racing Ahead.

“He elected to go a bit earlier than he probably would have normally, but that was the winning move and he got his head in front on the line.

“1400 metres is his pet distance, he has won here at Caulfield over the same distance and he is probably going the best he has ever gone.

“Mentally he is going a lot stronger in the head now and this horse is in career best form.”

Pillar Of Creation was ridden just off the speed when he returned to winning form in the Best Tote Plus Handicap and Zahra expects that the four-year-old will receive a lovely run into the Sheen Group Handicap when he jumps from barrier five.

Zahra admits that Pillar Of Creation does not possess the greatest turn-of-foot, but he remains confident that the in-form gelding will be able to grind his way to another race win this weekend.

“He doesn’t find a lot and he gives you about a length and just grinds away,” Zahra said.

“If you are outside the leader it is always an advantage, especially at Caulfield.

“If he can just grind away tomorrow he is a pretty tough horse to get past.”

Pillar Of Creation ($5) is currently on top of the Sheen Group Handicap betting market at Ladbrokes Australia from Loot ‘N’ Run ($7), Supreme Warrior ($9), Academy Jack ($9) and Digitalism ($9).
