Trainer Trevor Andrews considers the booking of leading jockey William Pike as a huge bonus to the winning chances of Get Over It in the Group 2 $500,000 Sky Racing-W.A. Guineas (1600m) at Ascot in Perth on Saturday.
Pike picked up the ride on Get Over It after regular jockey Paul Harvey was hit with a twenty-six day suspension for causing interference when he rode I Am Boudica into third place in the Group 3 $200,000 W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on November 12.
“He’s drawn well and it was good to get the services of Willie,” Andrews told the West Australian.
Harvey was aboard Get Over It at his last two starts for a third to Caipirinha in the Listed $100,000 Belgravia Stakes ((1200m) at Ascot on October 22 followed by an unlucky fourth to W.A. Guineas rival Saul’s Special in the Listed $100,000 Fairetha Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on November 5.
Andrews is hoping for a change of luck after Get Over It was held up for a run in the straight last start and from barrier two he can see Pike getting all the short cuts when he needs them.
“He won’t have to work hard to get a spot and he’s got enough pace to sit a bit closer,” Andrews said.
“He had no luck last start. We just need a bit of luck on Saturday.”
“I’m pretty happy with him. I wouldn’t swap him for anything else in the race.”
Get Over It is listed at $8.50 for the W.A. Guineas at Ladbrokes.com.au while the Daniel Morton trained Saul’s Special has been steady around the $6.50 mark.
W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes runner up Ellicazoom heads the market order at $4.80 ahead of Whispering Brook at $6 with the Lindsey Smith trained Humanity with Hugh Bowman in the saddle also in the betting at $7.
Ellicazoom was on the receiving end of the interference which resulted in Harvey’s suspension and trainer Neville Parnham is also hoping for a change of luck in the W.A. Guineas.
The Testa Rossa filly has drawn barrier six and will be ridden again by Steven Parnham.
