Trainer Peter Moody and jockey Luke Nolen have shared in their own slice of racing history after they accomplished 500 wins as a partnership last Saturday.

The 500th win was achieved after Luke Nolen rode Master Harry to victory in the $125,000 Listed Bob Hoysted Handicap at Flemington last Saturday.

“It’s a bit of a milestone for both of us,” Moody said after learning of their accomplishment.

The Moody/Nolen partnership first began eight years ago at Sale when Moody accidently booked Luke Nolen by mistake, thinking he had booked his brother Shaun.

Luke Nolen went on to win a double that day and has since enjoyed much success as one of Australia’s best jockeys.

“No doubt he has marked himself in the top echelon of riders in the country,” Peter Moody said.

“Certainly my stable has been part of it but my job only goes so far and he has got to do the rest out there on the track and he is doing a helluva job.”

Luke Nolen was the first to arrive at the track on Saturday, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the Moody stable.

The jockey was thrilled with his accomplishment, although would have preferred to have reached the 500 wins at his home track.

“It’s great. The only thing is it would have been a bit sweeter if it was at home (Caulfield),” Luke Nolen said.

The Moody/Nolen partnership now joins the likes of Lee Freedman/Damien Oliver, Bart Cummings/Roy Higgins, Jim Moloney/Pat Hyland, Colin Hayes/Jim Courtney and Tommy Smith/George More in reaching the big 500.

We will now have to wait and see whether Luke Nolen is rewarded with the ride on Black Caviar in this weekend’s Newmarket Handicap, where the super mare will try for ten wins in a row.
