Pelicano had surgery to remove a bone chip from his hind leg following his win in the Listed Werribee Cup (2600m) at the end of last year and returned to racing with a credible eighth place finish in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on December 13 and produced an improved performance when fourth in the Summer Cup (2000m) at the same venue on Boxing Day.

Trainer Tony McEvoy has been pleased with the two performances of Pelicano since he returned from injury and is hopeful that the Court Of Jewels gelding can justify his favouritism and record his first race win in over a year.

Midsummer Sun recorded an impressive win in the 2014 edition of the Gosford Cup and is on the second line of betting for this year’s race at a quote of $3.80.

The Monsun gelding has not recorded a race win since his Gosford Cup triumph, but he was far from disgraced when sixth in the Villiers Stakes and was only narrowly denied by I’m Imposing in the Summer Cup.

Chris Waller-trained Multilateral is the only horse taking winning form into the Gosford Cup and he is available at a quote of $4.80 to record his third win at Listed level.

Multilateral produced disappointing performances in the Villiers Stakes and Summer Cup, but returned to his best form with an impressive effort in the Listed Tattersalls Club Cup (2400m) at Royal Randwick on January 1 and has previously won over the 2100 metres trip of the Gosford Cup.

The best backed runner in 2015 Gosford Cup betting markets has been Casino Dancer, who is into odds of $8 after opening at $9 earlier in the week.

Casino Dancer will be returning to black type racing for the first time since she finished ninth behind Rising Romance in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) at Royal Randwick on April 19 and produced a strong effort when third in the Summer Cup.

The only other horse that is available at single figure 2015 Gosford Cup odds is Paul Perry-trained Ghost Protocol ($9), while the resuming Oriental Lady ($15), Team Cummings-trained Blazing Dragon ($21), Godolphin gelding Gallatin ($26), the inconsistent  Hoylonny ($34) and the experienced Phrases ($67) are all priced at lengthier odds.
