Paximadia has led all the way to win the Listed Vintage Stakes at Flemington Racecourse today.

The three-year-old was having just his fifth race start in the 2013 Vintage Stakes and was first-up for the spring racing carnival.

Paximadia has now won two of his five race starts and has earned more than $162,000 in prize money during his career.

The Commands colt was the $3 favourite to win the Vintage Stakes and was the field’s market mover.

I Am Titaniam placed a strong second, while Paximadia’s stable mate Champollion finished in third position.

Stable representative Paul Snowden was at the track to witness his two chances place in the top three.

“We didn’t sort of see a lot of speed there,” Snowden said of the race.

“(Jockey) Nash (Rawiller) was able to get a good couple of cheap sectionals (aboard Paximadia).

“He’s run well”

“He just keeps building and building, and as you’ve seen today he’s strong on the line.”

Snowden revealed that Paximadia and Champollion would likely meet along the way this spring racing carnival, as they will be given similar campaigns.

He expects at least one of them to feature in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas in November.

“(They’re on a) similar path. There’s not much between them.

“As long as one of them wins.”
Jockey Nash Rawiller was pleased to see his race tactic pay off in today’s Vintage Stakes.

“He sort of jumped in the air a little bit when the gates opened,” Rawiller said.

“He’s pretty good on his feet and he got out of it within two strides.

“That’ll do him the world of good.

“We’ve got plenty of horse to work with. He’s a very nice horse.”

Prior to today’s race, Paximadia had appeared in four race starts during the autumn and winter racing carnivals.

His most recent result was a third placing behind Romantic Touch in the Group 1 JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm Racecourse in June.

Prior to that run, Paximadia placed a gallant fourth in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes.
