Torio's Quest wins the Group 2 Queensland Guineas by three lengths

The Brett Partelle trained Torio’s Quest has produced a breathtaking run to win the Group Two Queensland Guineas at Eagle Farm.

The race was all but over at the 200m mark as the gelding exploded away from the field to win by three lengths.

Torio’s Quest copped a bad check in the back straight, but jockey Hugh Bowman was able to steady the horse up and have him in a great position when the whips were cracking.

Partelle said that it had been a trying time for the horse who had been unlucky in his last few starts.

“The master JB Cummings once told me patience is free and I’ve needed patience with this horse,” Partelle said.

“His last couple have been really frustrating. He never got clear at Scone and then ran into a wet rack at Randwick which he really didn’t handle. But back on top of the ground he was always going to be hard to beat.”

“I’m just extremely happy for everyone involved.”

Partelle also said that he couldn’t wait to get the horse to Melbourne in a race over more distance.

“The best of him is yet to come. The way he settles, he just about goes to sleep. He’s going to be very good over a mile and a quarter and possibly even further.” Partelle said.

Benny’s Button raced just off the speed and looked primed to unleash a strong finishing run, but he just couldn’t match the brilliance of Torio’s Quest, while Spot the Rock also ran home strongly into third.

Ready to Rip looked a danger coming into the straight but ran into a wall of horses and never really got going.

The win was extra sweet for jockey Hugh Bowman, who was having his last ride in Australia before heading to England on a six week riding trip.

Torio’s Quest, who was paying $11.00 in the Guineas, now takes his record to five wins from ten starts.
