Overreach Can Follow In Pierro’s Footsteps

Golden Slipper winner Overreach is likely to be given the opportunity to follow the lead of superstar stablemate Pierro by contesting the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Pierro backed up seven days after his Golden Slipper win to defeat All Too Hard by two lengths in the Sires’ on his way to the two-year-old triple crown.

While there is yet to be any suggestion that Overreach will attempt the triple crown, all signs point to her stepping up to 1400m this weekend.

The speedy filly’s dominant Golden Slipper victory came on the back of two convincing lead-up wins and jockey Tommy Berry reported on twitter she has pulled up well from the glamour sprint.

“Overreach looked outstanding this morning after her explosive win in the Golden Slipper on Saturday, #bringonthesires,” Berry said.

The daughter of Exceed And Excel has proven herself by far the standout two-year-old of her crop and another win this weekend could tempt connections into pursuing the triple crown, which ends with the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on April 27.

Overreach is expected to be joined in the Sires’ by stablemate and Golden Slipper third placgetter Sweet Idea.

Meanwhile, Pierro has come through Saturday’s George Ryder Stakes win unscathed and will now push on to the $1.5 million Doncaster Mile (1600m) on Saturday week.

“Did Pierro run on Saturday? It didn’t feel like it when I gave him a breeze around the dirt this morn! What a machine,” Berry said.

Pierro remains unbeaten from 10 starts in Sydney and will start a short-priced favourite in the Doncaster where he will carry 56kg.
