Trainer Murray Baker has revealed that talented colt Atlante will be entered for the majority of the major races during the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Atlante earned himself a trip to Australia with a tough victory in the Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton Park on November 9 and was expected to be set for the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) at Royal Randwick on March 15.

While the Randwick Guineas will remain on the agenda for Atlante, Baker told Racing Ahead today that the son of Fastnet Rock will be entered for the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) and may even be given an opportunity over 2000 metres in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) and the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m).

“I will certainly look at it (the Doncaster Mile) and he will certainly be nominated,” Baker said

“He does race like a horse that might get 2000 metres and we are hoping he will because that opens up the Rosehill Guineas and a couple of other good races.”

Atlante failed to fire in the first two starts of his racing career, but ended his maiden racing campaign with impressive victories in the Melbourne Cup Day At Ellerslie Maiden (1400m) and the Listed Holloway Builders Canterbury Stakes (1600m) before his triumph in the New Zealand 2000 Guineas.

The three-year-old was sent for a stint in the spelling paddock following his victory in the 2000 Guineas and Baker said that he has been happy with the way that the tough colt has progressed in his time away from the stable.

“He is a Fastnet Rock and is quiet a big horse,” Baker said.

“He is a promising horse and we like the look of him, so we are going to have a crack in Sydney.

“He has always raced a bit greenly, lugging out and that and lacking concentration, but I think that if we get him focused he can be a pretty handy horse.

“He spelled well in Cambridge for about six weeks after the 2000 Guineas and he looks good.”

Baker has the opportunity to be one of the most successful trainers in the inaugural edition of The Championships; with five-time Group 1 winner It’s A Dundeel set to contest the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Show The World expected to be a contender for the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m).
