Omei Sword will only be facing the stater for the third time but trainer Chris Waller is happy for her to tackle Group 1 company after she ran second to Calliope in the Group 2 $175,000 Bede Murray Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 12.

At her previous start the High Chaparral filly scored on debut in a 1100m filly’s two year old maiden at Rosehill on February 24.

“She takes on a pretty competitive line up but she has done nothing wrong,” Waller said.

“Good draw, barrier two. I hope we get a chance to use these draws on Saturday. We desperately need some sunshine to be able to utilize good gates otherwise they are bad gates.”

The Randwick track was upgraded to a Soft 6 on Friday afternoon and with more good weather over the next twenty four hours another upgrade could be expected.

Omei Sword has continued to impress since her Magic Night Stakes run and regular work rider Charles Duckworth described her recent work as “outstanding”.

Waller is expecting Omei Sword to develop into a top class three year old filly and has already earmarked the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield as a Spring Carnival goal.

“You wouldn’t expect her to be winning a Group 1 as a two-year-old and I think she will be a serious horse when she turns three,” Waller said.

“She’s done everything right from the trials to her first-up win and then performing well in Group company.”

“I’ve waited for an excuse to turn her out but haven’t found one and she runs over a more suitable distance here. If she can win this then she would be worth serious money.”

Inglis Sires’ market order at Ladbrokes.com.au: $3.40 Yankee Rose, $4 Telperion, $5.50 Omei Sword, $8 Seaburge, $11 Good Standing, $12 Detective, $19 Zamzam, $21 Attention, $31 Chimboraa, $34 Faraway Town, $41 Rivo Boy, $126 Sparkle.
