O’Dea’s Path To Fame Continues With Gold Coast Hopefuls

Steven O’Dea will be looking to continue his magnificent run at the Gold Coast this weekend, after a successful campaign at Ipswich Racecourse on Monday.

Widely regarded as one of Brisbane’s best young trainers, O’Dea’s luck began when he was given the successful Kiss Me Katy to race two years ago.

The talented young filly brought O’Dea to Brisbane where he successfully ran her in some of the state’s best Stakes races.

“I was never meant to move here when I came down in 2009,” O’Dea said.

“But we had some luck in the first few months with horses like Go Cart and Kiss Me Katy and I got some good owners and decided to stay.”

O’Dea is confident that his gamble has paid off.

“It was a gamble at the time but I’ve trained 30 winners this season and things are going nicely,” he said.

The trainer has two real hopes in this Saturday’s Gold Coast classy Gold Coast meeting.

Geblitzt is nominated for the $150,000 Silk Stocking while Bianca Jewel is currently set to take on the $125,000 Gold Coast Bracelet.

“They’re both going really well and I’m certain they will both race well on Saturday,” O’Dea said.

“I will get a guide on where to go next after Saturday but they will both be good chances.”

One of O’Dea’s brightest young stars, Amber’s Crown, will not be running in this Saturday’s Gold Coast program.

The two-year-old Amber’s Crown won her last start in the $150,000 QTIS 600 Plate and will now be sent for a spell to ensure she is not overworked.

“She’s going straight to the paddock,” O’Dea said.

“I’d like to give her a chance to develop and she’ll come back a better three-year-old.

“There’s not a lot of her in size but she’s a real trier and she’s very nice horse.”
