Noonan To Give Varenna Miss Confidence Boost

Trainer Tony Noonan has taken drastic measures in order to prepare Varenna Miss for a successful winter carnival, removing her from the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes field in favour of the lower class Triple M Handicap.

The Triple M Handicap is restricted to horses that have had a maximum of two metropolitan wins in the last year, a category that Varenna Miss fits into.

Noonan is hoping that this change in pace will allow Varenna Miss to get a much deserved win and give her the confidence she needs to perform to her peak throughout the remainder of the Brisbane carnival.

While Varenna Miss put in a gallant effort to finish fourth in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate earlier in her preparation, her effort in the Group 1 The Goodwood last start didn’t sit right with her trainer.

“We were disappointed that day (at Morphettville),” Noonan said.

“She ran super at her previous run in the Oakleigh Plate and just may not have copped the trip.”

Noonan feels that Varenna Miss’ recent defeats have caused her to stop trying her best.

“It was her first time away and raced without any real spark,” Noonan said.

“She had a brief let-up in the paddock after that when she came home and has been in light work.”

Varenna Miss will begin what Noonan hopes is a more successful winter campaign in Queensland this Saturday.

“She’s been up a week now and settled in well,” Noonan said.

“She’s gone up there in the hope that if she performs well we’ll go around in the Winter Stakes at the end of the carnival.”
