No Trackwork For Fab Fevola Ahead Of Black Caviar Lightning Stakes

Trainer Dean Binaisse has confirmed that Fab Fevola will follow his usual routine ahead of the 2015 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes at Flemington this weekend and will not take part in a trackwork gallop.

Fab Fevola has been plagued by breathing issues since he made his racing debut under the care of Bryan Guy in Queensland in 2009 and Binaisse said that he gave up on asking the Falvelon gelding to do trackwork because the sprinter could not be restrained.

Binaisse said that Fab Fevola found his best form when they made this change to his routine and the Mornington-based trainer told Racing Ahead that nothing will change for the eight-year-old ahead of the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes this weekend.

“His program is pretty simple, once we worked out that we couldn’t ride him in trackwork because he just poured himself into the ground that is what changed his whole demeanor and that is when he started to win in those 955s,” Binaisse said.

“A lot of people forget that him and Vatican are the only two to break 55 in that and Daniel Moor actually eased up on him when he did that.

“What we do after every run is that he has a week off and then we just pop him in the water walker and then before the race we either take him to the bull ring and he has a jump or we surge him on the water walker.

“That is what we have been doing for the last 18 months and we have bought home $230,000.

“He has been stiff a couple of times and it could have been nearly $300,000.”

Fab Fevola was a late inclusion in the entries for the 2015 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes and he will be having his first start at Group level of any kind in the $500,000 this weekend.

Binaisse admits that Fab Fevola deserves to go around at big 2015 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes odds, but he believes that the gelding is a sneaky chance of finishing in the placings if he is given an easy lead in the race.

“The times that he has run he should be thereabouts, but everybody knows that he has breathing problems,” Binaisse said.

“If he gets left alone and he can roll along on his own I don’t think he will embarrass us.

“With small fields tricky things can happen and throw up a bizarre result sometimes.

“(Owner) John Lynch owns the mare and I have his two sisters and his little brother and there is another filly at a stud farm, so if he managed to pinch a place it would make the rest of the family worth a lot more.

“John still gets $10,000 for going around and we drew 12 of 12 at Moonee Valley on Friday night, so we will obviously head to Saturday.”

Fab Fevola is currently available at 2015 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes odds of $101 with Ladbrokes, while Deep Field ($2.30) remains a narrow favourite from Lankan Rupee ($2.40) and Brazen Beau ($5).
