With the Caulfield track rated a dead 5 this morning with overnight rain, the prospect of Black Caviar running a track record looks very remote.
Caulfield received 13mm overnight and 20mm for the week and track manager Jason Kerr has posted a dead 5 for the CF Orr meeting today.
There had been speculation that a record could be on the cards with noted front runners Danzylum and Peter Moody’s other runner Doubtful Jack ready to set a fast tempo.
But Moody wasn’t concerned if Black Caviar could break Exceed And Excel’s 1400m record of 1.21.2 and now that the track has been rated in the dead range a track record is most unlikely.
“They’ll go forward, Danzylum and Doubtful Jack, but they’re not breakneck sort of horses,” Moody said.
“The speed will be even and that’s it.
“Black Caviar won’t be out to smash any clocks. It’s not on the wish list and never has been.”
The champion mare is going for her eighteenth straight win in the Group 1 $400,000 C.F. Orr Stakes today and track records have never been one of Moody’s priorities.
Black Caviar came close to Miss Andretti’s Moonee Valley record of 1.9.29 when Luke Nolen eased her down on the line in the Group 2 Australia Stakes to clock 1.9.44.
Melbourne Racing Club chairman Mike Symons is expecting a crowd of 35,000 to see the unbeaten champ continue on her winning way and write her name further into the record books.
