No Tatt’s Tiara for Sold For Song, will stick to own age in Daybreak Lover

Toowoomba filly Sold For Song will stick to her own age group and head towards the Listed $125,000 Landfill Logistics Daybreak Lover (1400m) for the three year olds at Eagle Farm on June 25.

Trainer Kevin Kemp was tempted to take on the fillies and mares in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Club Tiara (1400m) on the same day after running third to the Sydney filly Tsaritsa in the Group 2 $400,000 MIRVAC Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm last Saturday.

“I thought about the Tiara but she is only a three-year-old and there will be some very experienced mares in the field,” Kemp told AAP.

Leading Brisbane apprentice James Orman had to ride Sold For Song cold after drawing the outside barrier in the eighteen horse Queensland Guineas and the filly made up many lengths in the straight to finish one and a half lengths behind the winner.

The Daybreak Lover was originally programed for June 4, Queensland Oaks Day, but when that meeting was washed out, it was transferred to Tattersall’s Club Tiara Day.

Sold For Song had drawn barrier one in the Daybreak Lover on Queensland Oaks Day but after that meeting was cancelled, Kemp decided to run in the Queensland Guineas.

Kemp was planning to have Sold For Song ridden closer to the pace but after drawing the extreme outside barrier in the Queensland Guineas, that plan had to be aborted.

“It was ironic that we drew barrier one for the washed out race and then the outside for the Guineas,” Kemp said.

“The wash-out really cost us because we were planning to see how she would go when ridden closer to the pace.”

Sold For Song is the winner of two of her seven race starts and collected some black type when she won the Listed $100,000 Gold Edition Plate (1200m) at Doomben on December 12 last year.

She then kicked off her Winter Carnival campaign with a second to Divine Centuri in the Listed $100,000 Mick Dittman Plate (1000m) at the Sunshine Coast on April 23 followed by a second to Takedown in the Group 3 $125,000 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) at the Gold Coast on May 7.

Sold For Song then put in an uncharacteristic run when twelfth to Counterattack in the Group 3 $125,000 Fred Best Classic (1350m) at Doomben on May 21 before bouncing back to run third in the Queensland Guineas.
