No Melbourne Cup For Beaten Up

Trainer Chris Waller has revealed that Beaten Up will not head to the 2015 Melbourne Cup and he will have his next race start in the Group 3 Queen’s Cup (2600m) at Flemington on November 7.

Beaten Up started his 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a credible fourth in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick on August 22 and he produced credible performances in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on September 5 and the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) before he showed his staying ability with a gallant second place finish behind Magic Hurricane in the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) ay Royal Randwick on October 3.

The Beat Hollow gelding started the Listed City Tattersalls Club Cup (2400m) at Royal Randwick on October 17, but he was slow out of the gate and was never able to get into the contest.

Beaten Up was expected to return to the races in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day, but he was included in the final field that was released this morning and the Waller camp released a statement this afternoon that confirmed that imported galloper would not press on to the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 3.

“Please be advised Beaten Up will not contest the Melbourne Cup and instead will head to the Queen’s Cup (2600m) on November 7 as his next race start,” Waller said in a statement.

Beaten Up sat in 24th position in the Melbourne Cup order of entry and his withdrawal means that Sertorius, The United States and Secret Number are now one step closer to earning a place in the Melbourne Cup field.

Sertorius now sits in 24th position in the Melbourne Cup order of entry, but he is still not guaranteed a start in ‘the race that stops nation’ as the winner of the Lexus Stakes will earn ballot-exempt entry into the race and can leapfrog him into the final position.

Both The United States and Secret Number will not contest the Lexus Stakes this weekend and will require a horse above them in the order of entry to be removed in order to run in the $6 million event.
