No Golden Rose For Ready To Victory

Trainer Mick Price has revealed that talented colt Ready For Victory will not make the trip to Sydney for the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens next weekend.

Price confirmed that the Golden Rose Stakes would be the initial 2015 Spring Racing Carnival target for Ready For Victory and he made a positive return to racing with a second place finish behind Gold Symphony in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 29, but Price told Sky Racing HQ that the More Than Ready colt would not run in the Golden Rose and would instead contest the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on the same day.

“Sun International is having a bit of a day at Flemington and they are happy to run him in the Danehill with D Oliver on,” Price said.

“Jabali their other horse runs the same day and I believe that they have a filly to run also.

“They were a little bit concerned about a trip to Sydney to run and then come back and what that takes out of them.

“Personally I would have gone because you can’t win Group 1s, but sobeit and down the straight we go.”

Ready For Victory was sent to the spelling paddock after he failed to fire in the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick on April 6, but he showed that he was ready for a big 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign after he finished a luckless second in the McNeil Stakes on Saturday.

Price is confident that Ready For Victory would have won the McNeil Stakes if he had any luck in running, but he was still happy with the first-up performance of his star colt.

“(Mark) Zahra got off and said I wish I had drawn the outside, he clearly wins,” Price said.

“I was very happy with him and he just needed a bit of a clear crack at them.

“He had a couple of days there when he had a think about things, but this morning he was bouncing around like a little baby and he is really well in himself.

“He looks set for a big prep.”

Ready For Victory is currently available at 2015 Caulfield Guineas Stakes odds of $7 with Ladbrokes and he is on the third line of betting behind Vancouver ($5) and Press Statement ($6).
