No Clear Ladbrokes Orr Stakes Favourite

Lucky Hussler and Turn Me Loose are both available at 2016 Ladbrokes Orr Stakes odds of $4.20 and are locked in a battle for favouritism ahead of the Group 1 event at Caulfield this afternoon.

Lucky Hussler and Turn Me Loose, both opened as favourites when the Orr Stakes field was released earlier in the week, but it was the Darren Weir-trained galloper that was backed into $4.60 and looked set to start the race as favourite.

However, the money came for Turn Me Loose overnight and he was backed into $4.40 and then $4.20 before punters came for Lucky Hussler again.

Lucky Hussler has a slight fitness edge over Turn Me Loose after taking out the Magic Millions Cup at the Gold Coast in January, but Turn Me Loose beat Lucky Hussler in both the Group 2 Crystal Mile (1600m) and the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m).

The other horse that has been well-supported in Orr Stakes betting markets in the past 24 hours is Godolphin-owned Bow Creek, who has been backed from $11 into $9 to record a maiden race win in Australia.

Bow Creek flew home late to finish second behind Turn Me Loose in his Australian racing debut in the Crystal Mile and he failed to fire in the Emirates Stakes, but he had an excuse for the poor performance after he was found to be lame in his near foreleg.

The only other horse that is available at single figure Orr Stakes odds is Boban, who has drifted from $8 out to $8.50.

Boban took out the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) over the same course and distance of the Orr Stakes at the start of the 2015 Spring Racing Carnival, but he has not been seen at the races since he failed to beat home a runner in the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m).

There has been a sprinkling of support in the 2016 Ladbrokes Orr Stakes betting market for Rebel Dane ($17 into $16), Red Bomber ($101 into $81) and Suavito ($16 into $13), while the likes of Fawkner ($15 out to $21), Happy Trails ($34 out to $41), Hucklebuck ($17 out to $18), Stratum Star ($17 out to $21), Messene ($26 out to $41), Awesome Rock ($81 out to $101), Rising Romance ($34 out to $41) and Fenway ($21 out to $26) have all been on the drift.
