No Autumn Carnival For Sizzling

Sizzling won’t be a part of the Sydney autumn carnival with the colt to miss a shot at the Golden Slipper.

Trainer Kelso Wood will resist the temptation to tackle the world’s richest juvenile race after Sizzling finished fourth in the Magic Millions Classic on Saturday.

He said he’s content to miss the autumn riches in Sydney in favour of the Brisbane winter carnival despite far less money being on offer.

He says it will suit the horse better to have a decent spell and it will also open up the possibility of an extended campaign into the spring and races like the Golden Rose and Caulfield Guineas.

“He’s done a good job. I think he deserves a nice rest rather than have a week off and get to Sydney,” Wood said.

Another consideration was that the horse struggles with the early tempo over the 1200m trip.

“He has shown us he struggles to stay in touch at 1200m and the Slipper is going to be tougher than the Millions,” he said.

“He can enjoy several weeks off before we get him ready for the Sires Produce and T.J. Smith at the Eagle Farm carnival.”

Sizzling became a Magic Millions favourite after winning by six lengths on debut at Eagle Farm but was caught back in the pack early at his next two starts before flashing home for second place finishers.

This was again his problem on the Gold Coast and he wasn’t helped by a modest early tempo.

To his credit he was the only horse in the top six to come from the second half of the field but it wasn’t enough to threaten at any stage.
