No Alliance’s In Spring Stakes Free For All

Rekindled Alliance

Rekindled Alliance will have his third career start in the Spring Stakes

Paul Messara is one of seven trainers represented in today’s Spring Stakes at Newcastle and all seven of them probably rate themselves as a winning chance.

Messara certainly does, he saddles up Rekindled Alliance in just his third career start.

He debuted at Canterbury on the 10th of August with a solid win over 1100m before stepping up in distance and class to finish a tight second over 1400m at Rosehill.

On that day it was Just The Tonic that  beat him to the line and Messara thinks he’ll be the one to conquer again today.

“I think Gai’s horse gets all the favours today in the small field, if he gets some cheap sectionals he’ll definitely be hard to run down,” he said.

That being said he acknowledges there’s chances just about everywhere in the Spring Stakes, but he’s certainly one of them.

“It’s a very small but a very high quality field, we’ve got expectations on our horse..he deserves his spot there today,” he said.

He says the horse is in fine shape and there’s no reason he can’t make up the half a length he needs to win today.

“He certainly hasn’t gone backwards, he’s not a magnificent track worker or anything but I can definitely say he hasn’t gone backwards,” he said.

“He does whatever’s required but no more, we’re very happy with him leading into this.”

Messara also stressed that the wide Broadmeadow track and long home straight will play right into the hands of Rekindled Alliance as will the current Dead 4 rating.
