Niwot 2011 Melbourne Cup betting shortener

Niwot has been backed from $101 to $10 with most bookmakers to win the 2011 Group 1 $6m Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington tomorrow.

The Hawkes team trained galloper was bet around Australia today tightening up from $13 to $10 with most organisations.

Before he qualified in the Melbourne Cup by winning Saturday’s Lexus Stakes (2500m), the seven year old could be taken at $101.

After the impressive three length win over Macedonian, he was shortened to $17 and since the pure weight of money now sees him a clear third Cup favourite behind Americain $5 and Dunaden $8.50.

The change of Christophe Lemaire  for Craig Williams on Dunaden hasn’t stopped the support for the French galloper backing him consistently at $8.
