The 2014 Canterbury Stakes odds of Zoustar have lengthened significantly in the past 24 hours; with the Northern Meteor colt now available at a price of $4 to record his third victory at Group level at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Zoustar opened as a clear favourite in 2014 Canterbury Stakes betting markets and still maintains his place on the top of betting, but there has been plenty of support for Team Hawkes-trained Not Listenin’tome as well as classy mare Red Tracer in the lead-up to the Group 1 event.

Zoustar has not been seen at the races since he finished his 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a win in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day, but according to trainer Chris Waller has had an excellent lead-up to the Canterbury Stakes.

“The horse is well and he has had a good steady build-up,” Waller said.

“He has trailed well and he has worked on well and he is looking pretty sharp.

“We don’t ever ask him to break track records in the morning or do anything exceptional, because I know that if they do that they can run the risk of being injured.

“It is all about holding them together and making sure that you do just enough to have them performing at their best.

“There looks to be plenty of speed in the race and I think that will help the horse settle and run out a strong 1300 metres first-up.”

Waller has four runners in the Canterbury Stakes this weekend, with Sacred Falls, Red Tracer and My Kingdom Of Fife also included in the final field, and the leading Sydney trainer has an excellent opportunity to end the struggle hold Gai Waterhouse has had on the race in recent years.

Despite the drift in betting, Waller rates Zoustar his leading chance in the Group 1 event and is confident that he may be able to trifecta the race.

“I’m leaning towards Zoustar and Red Tracer with Sacred Falls a close third,” Waller said.

“Kingdom Of Fife will hit the line late for a big 100 or 200.”

Red Tracer has been backed into 2014 Canterbury Stakes odds of $4.60, while Sacred Falls is available at a quote of $41 with My Kingdom Of Fife the outsider of the field at the lengthy price of $101.
