He might not be in the same echelon as All Too Hard or Pierro but breeders will still be forced to dig deep to have mares served by the recently retired Your Song.

Widden Stud have announced the BTC Cup winner will stand for $22,000 in the upcoming breeding season, with his physical make-up and genuine speed expected to make him a popular stallion.

“He is the most magnificent type you are likely to see and I can’t wait to show him to breeders,” Widden’s Anthony Thompson said.

“Your Song’s performance to blow away a genuine weight-for-age field in the Group 1 BTC Cup will live in my mind for a long time.

“That combined with his pedigree and unbelievable good looks has him already proving popular among breeders.”

The big, strong horse ended his career in disappointing style on Saturday when finishing 14th in the Stradbroke Handicap.

But his future as a stallion was locked away last month when he produced one of the performances of the season to win the BTC Cup by five lengths.

From nine career starts the son of Fastnet Rock won three times and placed on another three occasions, with the other major highlight being a runner-up finish to Pierro in the Group 3 Run To The Rose.

Pierro, a five-time Group 1 winner, heads global breeding giant Coolmore’s book at a fee of $77,000 while four-time Group 1 winner All Too Hard will stand for $66,000 at Vinery Stud.

The trio were part of a standout crop of three-year-olds. The other big gun of their age group, Sydney triple crown winner It’s A Dundeel, is expected to race on as a four-year-old.
