Sunshine Coast based Yankee Rose continues to firm in the betting for the Group 1 $1m De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
Even though the David Vandyke trained Yankee Rose has had an interrupted preparation, she still has plenty of supporters and has firmed into $5.50 at Ladbrokes.com.au on Friday morning after $9.50 was bet on Tuesday when the final field for the Golden Rose was released.
John O’Shea’s glamour colt Astern has regained favouritism at $3.80 after Omei Sword’s priced eased to $4 while the Team Hawkes trained Divine Prophet is on the third line of betting at $4.80.
Vandyke has been confronted with several problems in Yankee Rose’s build up to the Golden Rose with a couple of lacklustre barrier trials and a minor joint problem that responded to treatment quickly.
Yankee Rose’s preparation finally turned from bad to good with a pleasing gallop in between races at the Sunshine Coast meeting last Sunday when Vandyke put the blinkers back on the filly.
“We put the blinkers on and gave her a raceday experience,’’ Vandyke told The Daily Telegraph.
“I was much happier with her after that gallop.
“She hasn’t worn the blinkers since she won the ATC Sires Produce Stakes so we have kept them up on our sleeve and it did the job.’’
Yankee Rose will be having her first run back since winning the Group 1 $1m Inglis Sires’ (1400m) at Randwick on April 2 for Zac Purton and the Hong Kong based jockey will be back in the saddle in the Golden Rose.
Purton also rode Yankee Rose when a first up second to Capitalist in the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on March 19 and is confident Vandyke will have her ready to fire in the Golden Rose.
“David knows Yankee Rose very well and he knows what he is doing,’’ Purton said.
“He got her to peak for the Golden Slipper with the same type of preparation and there is nothing to suggest he can’t do it again.
“If David is happy with Yankee Rose then I am happy with her.’’
“Yankee Rose has never been a flash trackworker or trialler but you know she has always turned up on raceday before.’’
“So, hopefully when she gets back to Rosehill where she has done well before she will know it is game time.’’
Astern goes into the Golden Rose on the back of a first win in the Group 2 $175,000 MTA Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill on August 27 while the Chris Waller trained Omei Sword put herself into Golden Rose contention with an impressive win in the Group 2 $175,000 Alpha Flight Services Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on August 20.
Market order for the Golden Rose at Ladbrokes.com.au: $3.80 Astern $4.00 Omei Sword, , $4.80 Divine Prophet, $5.50 Yankee Rose, $12 Impending, $15 Derryn, $16 El Divino, $26 Mediterranean, $34 Thronum, $51 Good Standing, Nikitas, $101 Oink, Chamalu, $126 O’Reilly Cyrus.
