Woorim has won the last on Derby Day

Woorim has put his recent bad luck behind him to win the final race of Victoria Derby Dayat Flemington today.

Thankgodyou’rehere finished behind Woorim in second in the Group 3 tab.com.au Stakes, while Toorak Toff held on well to finish third.

Trainer Robert Heathcote will now send the six-year-old gelding to the Group 1 Emirates Stakes on Sunday November 5.

Jockey Michael Rodd had always been confident of Woorim’s chances going into the race.

“Robert Heathcote and his foreman down here… said he’d win today,” Rodd revealed.

“He’s a very underestimated horse this horse.

“He’s had a few feet issues but they’ve got him right for today.

“This boy enjoys a bit of room so it worked out well for us.”

Stable representative Melissa Leach was thrilled to have secured Woorim’s first Group win of the spring.

“We know the horse is capable of that but it’s just a case of having everything right with him,” Leach said.

“We were happy coming into the race.

“We’d rather have been (in barrier 15) than barrier one.

“We’ll go on to the Emirates Mile.”

Woorim has now won 10 of his 35 career starts and has accrued more than $720,000 in prize money.
