Amralah is currently available at 2015 Herbert Power Stakes odds of $3.20 and co-owner Nick Williams expects the imported stayer to run a big race in the Group 2 event at Caulfield tomorrow.
Amralah made a slow start to his racing career in Australia after winning at Group level in the United Kingdom, but he showed what he was capable of when he recorded a dominant victory in the Listed Penang Trophy (1800m) at Morphettville on September 19.
The Teofilo entire was extremely well-backed in the lead-up to the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 4 and he started the race as equal favourite, but he was never able to find clear running and he finished in seventh without ever really receiving the opportunity to let down.
Williams told Racing Ahead that a slow start cost Amralah in the Turnbull Stakes, but he believes that the five-year-old will be suited by the step-up to 2400 metres in the Herbert Power Stakes and will have no problem handling the quick back-up.
“It wasn’t initially our intention to do that, but he didn’t have much luck in the Turnbull,” Williams said.
“He spun his wheels a little when he was jumping and he is a horse that needs to run right up on the pace.
“He is a grinding type horse rather than a horse with a turn-of-foot and in his races in England he simply broke other horse’s hearts.
“Unfortunately Damien was never able to get the horse in the position to race to his advantage and I felt very sorry for him afterwards because he never had a chance.
“He never actually did that much in the run and he was as bright as a button straight after the race and on Monday morning, so we thought that we would back him up and give him a test over a mile and a half.
“I think that he will run very well tomorrow.
“He is an on-pace runner and he should be right there in the finish.
“We are really excited by him and he is going really well.”
Amralah is currently available at 2015 Herbert Power Stakes odds of $3.20 with Ladbrokes and he is a clear favourite from talented mare Bohemian Lily ($4.60), Gai Waterhouse-trained Excess Knowledge ($8), consistent stayer Prince Of Penzance ($12), Victoria Derby placegetter Bondeiger ($12) and staying mare Albonetti ($12).
