She may have two of the biggest spring names in her stable in Pierro and More Joyous but yesterday’s excitement was all about a group of unheralded juveniles for Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse.

Eleven two-year-old heats were held at Warwick Farm yesterday and four winners came from the Waterhouse stable who dominated the trials with 15 total runners.

Many will get their chance to step out on race day on October 6 at Randwick which hosts both the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) for fillies and the Listed Breeders’ Plate (1000m) for colts and geldings.

Waterhouse confirmed yesterday a number of her two-year-olds will head towards the $100,000 events with trial winners Rockford and War confirmed for the Breeders’ Plate.

“Rockford is a professional colt and I like the way he handles himself. He is on target for the Breeders Plate,” Waterhouse said on twitter.

“War has been declared on the Breeders’ Plate. The colt was impressive winning his trial today.”

The hall of fame trainer also declared two runners ready for the Gimcrack with More Than Ready filly Sugar Rush and Fastnet Rock filly Shahad both impressive when winning their heats.

“Sugar Rush will be sweet to the lips when she steps out in the Gimcrack Stakes,” she said.

“Shahad oozes quality….boy will she explode in the Gimcrack.”

Perhaps the most hyped trialler prior to yesterday was Most Joyful, a full sister to More Joyous, who was reasonable without being outstanding when finishing a length second to Marc Conners-trained filly Fiftyshadesofgrey.
