Waller Already Thinking Slipper With Fundido

Given four days is a long time when it comes to two year old racing four months is an absolute eternity.

Such is the forward thinking nature of Chris Waller though that he’s already planning a path that will lead him into the autumn.

The horse in question is Fundido and Waller believes he well may well be a prospect for the 2012 Golden Slipper.

As a result the horse won’t be running at Wyong this Thursday in favour of a start at Rosehill on Boxing Day.

The Wyong event may well be worth $200,000 but it’s not the type of money Waller is searching for given it doesn’t count towards a potential Golden Slipper bid.

“If you have a horse that you think could realistically finish in the first three of the Magic Millions then you would like to think they would be good enough to compete in a Golden Slipper,” he said.

“The Golden Slipper is a long way away but you have to start planning for it now because you don’t want to be rushing to get enough prizemoney to make the field.”

Making his decision somewhat easier is the fact he’s already qualified for the Gold Coast Magic Millions in January.

“He is already qualified for the Magic Millions and I’d like to try and get more prizemoney in the bank if possible,” he said.

“Any prizemoney that he would earn at Wyong doesn’t count towards the Golden Slipper. I nominated just to keep our options open but at this stage he will run on Boxing Day before going to the Gold Coast.”

Fundido is rated as a top chance for next month’s carnival as well after putting a gap on his rivals two weeks ago on debut at Rosehill.

He’s the current third pick for the race and his path now seems a little clearer.

Top pick Sizzling was a huge odds on favourite at Eagle Farm on the weekend but faltered to blow open the Magic Millions market.
