Vadamos was as short as $13 when the 2016 Cox Plate field was released earlier in the week, but there has been no support for the son of Monsun after Joao Moreira was prohibited by the Hong Kong Jockey Club to make the trip to Melbourne for the Australasian Weight-For-Age Championship.

The French import completed his last piece of work before the Cox Plate at the Werribee International Equine Centre this morning and co-owner/breeder Andreas Putsch was very happy with what he saw from Vadamos.

“It is fantastic to be here,” Putsch told Racing.com.

“I haven’t seen him now for five weeks, but I am very happy with him.

“From day one he was the best looking foal ever and the best looking yearling ever, so I kept him too race.

“It is an unbelievable feeling.

“These kind of races are exciting because the best horses are in them.

“We are taking them on and we will see what happens.”

Vadamos has shown plenty of tactical versatility during his racing career to date and he is expected to press forward in the early stages of the 2016 Cox Plate, but Putsch said that he will not give new jockey Mark Zahra any clear instructions and he is happy to let the race play out.

“You always have to leave it up to the jockey and I don’t believe in too strict instructions,” Putsch said.

“He can go from everywhere and he will love the ground – he doesn’t like soft ground.

“The jockey will have to decide what to do.”

Vadamos is not the only horse that is on the drift in the 2016 Cox Plate betting market with Ladbrokes as the money continues to come for star mare Winx ($2.35 into $1.80).

Black Heart Bart ($17 out to $26), Hauraki ($19 out to $21), Happy Clapper ($71 out to $101), Awesome Rock ($71 out to $101), Lucia Valentina ($21 out to $26) and Yankee Rose ($14 out to $16) have all been in the drift in the last 24 hours, while Happy Trails ($201 into $151) is the only horse outside of Winx to see their price shorten.
