Connections of Twilight Royale are on track for $2.4 million pay day after the Sydney filly took out the Group 2 $220,000 Henry Bucks Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Flemington today.
The Sires’ Produce is the middle the leg of $2.4 million Inglis Triple Crown Bonus with Twilight Royale in the box seat to collect the spoils after winning the first leg, the $250,000 Inglis Nursery (1000m) at Warwick Farm on December 22.
Trainer Bjorn Baker will set a program that will lead his filly to Scone next May for the third leg of the bonus, the $400,000 Inglis 3yo Guineas (1400m).
Baker praised Michael Rodd for a superb ride which saw Twilight Royale win her third race from five starts and take her prizemoney to just below the half a million dollars, mainly courtesy of Inglis bonus races.
“Fantastic result, she’s a Group 2 winner, she’s a valuable brood mare,” Baker said.
“We went down there we were pretty confident, I thought she would go well.”
Twilight Royale picked up $145,000 winning the Inglis Nursery as well as $150,000 winning the $250,000 2yo Inglis Premier (1200m) at Mornington on February 13.
Rodd rode a patient race and had Twilight Royale back in the ruck when Luke Nolen kicked clear on favourite Weinholt who had enough at the 200m when the challengers came.
Twilight Royale finished off the 1400m strongly to score a clear cut win over Shamus Award and Great Esteem.
