Traveston Girl made her racing debut in June last year and she recorded two wins during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival and she finished second behind Amicus in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield, but she has been unable to record a race win in six starts in 2015.

The Flying Spur mare started her winter campaign with a close third in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) at the Gold Coast on April 25 and she finished third again in the Listed Juanmo Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on May 9, but she failed to fire in both the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) and the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m).

Traveston Girl returned to the races with tough third in the Vertica Capital Plate (1200m) at Doomben on October 17 before she finished fifth behind Scarlet Billows in the Group 3 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day and Gollan told Queensland Racing that he is happy with her form ahead of the 2015 Recognition Stakes.

“She’s drawn well and is third up and I couldn’t be happier going into this race with her,” Gollan said.

“She had a bad alley and pulled a little too hard but she boxed on well (at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day).

“She’s in good shape but it’s always a worry when they haven’t won for so long.

“Her winter form here wasn’t her best but a few things went wrong during that campaign.

“The 1200 metres was too short for her when she ran third then she raced against older mares.

“She was taken on up front when she failed in the Queensland Guineas but she’s going a lot better now.

“We’re looking forward, not backwards with her.”

Gollan is yet to decide on the Brisbane Summer Racing Carnival goal for Traveston Girl, but he said that the $1 million Magic Millions Stayer’s Cup (1800m) at the Gold Coast on January 9 could be the right kind of race for the four-year-old.

Traveston Girl is currently available at 2015 Recognition Stakes odds of $3.80 with Ladbrokes and she is a clear favourite from Jumbo Prince ($4.80), Chilling With Dylan ($6), Blue Lion ($9), Victory Hotel ($10) and Bewhatyouwannabe ($13).
